Galleri Maria Friis congratulates Sian Kristoffersen on receiving the Danish Arts Foundation three-year working grant.

In her artistic practice, Sian Kristoffersen draws on references from popular culture, literature and art history that are expressed through sculpture and installation. Materials such as plaster, wood, bronze and textiles are intertwined in poetic and tactile tableaux, exploring dualities between mythological narratives and contemporary reality. In the installation ‘Pleasure Garden’ from 2023, Kristoffersen shows this very duality: a staged garden surrounded by grow lights and fragmented bodies in plaster and amorphous sculptures. Here, the garden is explored as total enjoyment, but with the presence of humans, it can also contribute to climate change.
Sian Kristoffersen’s art creates narratives that strangely creep under the skin of the viewer, taking up space and adding a critical reflection on how our history can be experienced from a contemporary perspective.
