Galleri Maria Friis is delighted to congratulate Orsolya Bagala on receiving the Aage and Yelva Nimb Foundation’s honorary grant in December 2024. Orsolya Bagala has been awarded the prize in connection with her solo exhibition at Kunsten Museum of Modern Art in Aalborg.

Sensitive lines, sketch-like silhouettes, overrun used brown paper bags, unfolded cardboard boxes, frayed pizza trays, papers and canvas, with brushstrokes seeking, though with precision. Orsolya Bagala’s works emerge from existential themes, personal experiences and events. She paints imaginary portraits, female beings, serpentine bodies, mythical figures, sphinxes, fantastical creatures, embryos, and vegetation. Bagala’s works are interconnected, whether hanging closely together as a collage of art or much further apart. Figures and motifs move, diffuse, effortlessly flowing from one image to the next, repeating, transforming, and varying in an almost hymnic manner. A metamorphosis in full bloom before our eyes.
