Galleri Maria Friis is proud to share that the gallery’s represented artist Emmarosa Liebgen is part of the group exhibition The Forest (Skovens tid) at Nivaagaards Malerisamling, which opens today, Saturday, January 17th, 2026.

Liebgen participates in the exhibition with four works: Klintens stemmer I: Natpåfugleøjne, Roden, Liminal Ground and Bloodstream – with the latter two previously featured in Liebgen’s recent solo exhibition at the gallery, Undercurrents, which closed in December.

“Once upon a time, Denmark was covered in forest. Stories were told of the animals, supernatural beings, and dangerous figures that lived deep within the heart of the woods. Later, painters and poets celebrated the Danish beech forest as a national treasure, and today, the longing for untouched, wild nature continues to thrive. With Denmark’s new Green Tripartite Agreement, forested areas are set to increase by 40% by 2045. Against this backdrop of ambition, the exhibition explores how the forest has been depicted then and now. Historical artworks will enter into dialogue with new works by contemporary artists, in an exploration of our relationship with the forest. What will it mean for Denmark to become a forest nation once more?”
