With her first institutional solo exhibition, the total installation VÅDRUM, Nanna Starck transforms Tranen into a bathroom. For Starck, it is the scene of a number of our civilising rituals. It is here that we cut our nails, shave, care for our skin and hair and, in short, perform our toilet. The bathroom is the place where we retreat from the world in order to re-enter it as a better version of ourselves. But at Tranen, the bathroom is not a small, private cubicle. Instead, Starck has created a large, open space resembling the bathing facilities and changing rooms of a swimming pool. There are shower cubicles, lockers for clothes, bathrobes, slippers, and a large drain—all distorted, twisted, and displaced. The private becomes public.
