Orsolya Bagala

Orsolya Bagla (b. 1976, Hungary) has studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. She has presented her works both nationally and internationally, including the exhibitions Oh girl – it will not last at Galleri Maria Friis, Copenhagen, Denmark (2022), Urban Painting (curated by Barbara Steiner), Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst, Leipzig, Germany (2005), Bucharest Biennale for Young Contemporary Art, Bucharest, Romania (2006), The Face of Illness, Medicinsk Museion, Copenhagen, Denmark 2006), Cairo Biennale, Cairo, Egypt (2008), Transitions, KØN Gender Museum Denmark, Aarhus, Denmark (2019), Transitions #2, Rundetaarn, Copenhagen, Denmark (2021), and MAMA MIA (curated by Stense Andrea Lind-Valdan), Willumsen Museum, Frederikssund, Denmark (2022). Orsolya Bagala has created numerous performative and social art projects.

Orsolya Bagala’s works portray women, and their bodies and expressions alternating between the archetypical being to hybrid-like beings. Some beings bear their children, others carry several beings within them, like an absurd pregnancy or a bodily bisection. Many of her works are painted in shades of brown, red, and pink mimicing the colours of the flesh, blood and wounds.

Through her art, Orsolya Bagala visualizes the physical condition beyond corporality. She captures the ever changing and ephemeral nature of the human body in coalescence with the metaphysical reality.
