Tore Hallas’ solo exhibition Closest to God at Sol Nexø opens today 04.07.2025. The exhibition is on view until 03.08.2025. Excerpt from the exhibition text, written by Sofie Amalie Andersen:

In his first exhibition on Bornholm, Danish artist Tore Hallas presents both new and older works that explore negative stereotypes surrounding body and sexuality in various ways. These stereotypes pave the way for discrimination, which carries economic, social, and psychological consequences for those who exist outside established bodily ideals. The exhibition title Closest to God is borrowed from the film work You Are Closer to God When You Do Not Indulge, which examines how fat individuals experience discrimination. The film highlights the personal consequences of unequal treatment in the labor market—fewer job opportunities and raises, lower lifetime earnings, and harsh moral judgments such as assumptions of dishonesty and unwillingness. The phrase also signals an interest in moral and religious contexts, a hallmark of Hallas’ artistic
practice. With an approach that is at once knowledge-based, hyper-aesthetic, and personal, Hallas
confronts us with the discomfort that arises when one’s own body is othered.
