Nanna Starck Awarded The Danish Arts Foundation Three-Year Working Grant
Galleri Maria Friis are proud to announce that the gallery’s represented artist Nanna Starck have been awarded the three-year working grant by the Danish Arts Foundation.
Read the committee’s statement for the grant:
Nanna Starck works in an original way with sculpture and relief. In Starck’s works, the body is presented raw, unveiled and grotesque. Her practice is characterized by an uncompromising approach that breaks with conventional representations and delves into taboo subjects – in short, everything that lies outside the social norms.
Starck uses materials such as concrete, foam and silicone, which give her works a distinctly tactile and sensual quality. These qualities, coupled with the confrontational content of the works, create a tension between the fascinating and the repulsive, the erotic and the uncomfortable.
Alongside her artistic practice, Starck has over the years been active in the self-organized art scene, including as co-founder of the exhibition platform Age of Aquarius and as a member of the artist group Island Life.
