Stense Andrea Lind-Valdan
Stense Andrea Lind-Valdan considers herself primarily a painter, but she works in a variety of media including photography, drawing, and performance. Her work often incorporates her own body in the form of traces or imprints, presenting it in various forms and contexts, often challenging traditional notions of painting and the body. Her works are known for their existential themes, exploring concepts such as faith, power dynamics, phallic symbols, motherhood, grief, death drive, and love.
In addition to her artistic practice, Stense Andrea Lind-Valdan also contributes to national and international art discussions in her work as an art critic for the leading Nordic journal of contemporary art, Kunstkritikk.no. In 2014, she co-founded the micro-publishing house ‘Forlaget Sød tøs’ with her partner, PhD art historian Rune Gade, which primarily publishes handmade art books in very small editions.
Furthermore, Stense Andrea Lind-Valdan was the curator of the international group show “MAMA MIA” at Willumsen’s Museum, which combined contemporary artistic explorations with sketches by J. F. Willumsen, focusing on themes of gender, sexuality, and identity. This exhibition included works that challenge stereotypes and mainstream ideals, featuring diverse artists and a range of media.
Among others, her work is included in the collections of SMK – The National Gallery, The New Carlsberg Foundation, The National Collection of Photography, and Sorø Museum of Art.
