Galleri Maria Friis, located in the heart of Copenhagen, was founded on August 12, 2022. The foundation of the gallery is driven by a vision and a heartfelt desire to facilitate a space that challenges the established art scene and brings attention to talented artists who have been overlooked or underestimated.
The gallery’s curatorial strategy focuses on creating exhibitions that are curated with personal and surprising choices that emphasize the artists’ narratives. This choice reflects a strong commitment to contributing to artistic diversity and highlighting those who have not been previously illuminated. Galleri Maria Friis aims to offer tactile and thought-provoking exhibitions that not only enrich the artistic landscape but also contribute to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diversity of art.
We are honored that, since opening our doors, the work of our artists has garnered acknowledgment from esteemed institutions such as the New Carlsberg Foundation, the Danish Arts Foundation, the Council for Visual Arts, Art Museum Brandts and the National Gallery of Denmark. Additionally, the gallery was named ‘Best Gallery of the City 2023’ by Berlingske. This reflects the gallery’s ambition and desire to both illuminate and exhibit art that resonates both artistically and humanly.
